Meeting notes by Walls

The meeting notes structurer skill is a free Claude skill that turns raw meeting notes into a structured entry in your Brain vault. Paste a transcript or a quick bullet dump, and Claude pulls out the decisions, action items and open questions, links the entry to related notes and writes it to the vault.

What does the meeting notes structurer skill do?

It gives Claude a fixed way to file meeting notes. A bullet dump often mixes a decision, a task and unrelated context in one line. The skill tells Claude to read the input carefully and separate them, instead of skimming for keywords. Small talk and context that already lives elsewhere in the vault are left out.

Every note it writes has:

  • Decisions: what the group agreed on, stated plainly.
  • Action items: who owns what, with a deadline if one was mentioned. Without a named owner it writes “owner not specified”.
  • Open questions: points raised but not resolved, so they do not disappear.
  • Links to related notes in the vault’s own link syntax, for example [[q3-roadmap]].

How does the meeting notes structurer skill fit your vault?

It follows the format you already use instead of imposing a new template. Before writing, Claude searches for notes on the same project, meeting series or people, reads one or two of them, and copies their heading structure, tags and file naming. It then picks the folder where this kind of note normally goes.

After saving, Claude tells you the path and title of the note and summarizes the decisions and action items, so you can catch a mistake before anyone relies on it.

Which Brain tools does the meeting notes structurer skill use?

Tools from the Brain add-on of MCP Self-hosted:

  • brain_search finds related notes, so the new entry links to them and does not end up as an orphan.
  • brain_list shows the vault’s structure, with folder descriptions where set, and the file names in use.
  • brain_read opens a related note to match its format and confirm it is relevant.
  • brain_write saves the structured note as a new file, and brain_append adds it to an existing running note.
  • brain_history is optional: it lists recent commits for a file, so Claude only calls a change recoverable when versioning is on.

What do you need to run the meeting notes structurer skill?

You need MCP Self-hosted and the Brain MCP add-on. The download is free and needs no license; the add-on holds the vault Claude reads and writes. MCP Self-hosted costs € 217,80 excl. VAT: € 180,00/yr with 3 seats, and the Brain add-on is € 72,60 excl. VAT: € 60,00 per year.

This skill saves notes, so the seat needs the Brain tool with Can make changes on. On a read-only seat Claude gives you the structured note in chat instead. Brain is the only tool that can make changes from the start; if you switched it to read-only for a seat, switch it back in My Account → MCP Self-hosted. The Brain MCP setup guide covers VAULT_PATH and versioning.

Is a write to the vault safe?

It is when versioning is on. With VERSIONING_ENABLED=true, Brain keeps a git history of the vault, so every write from the meeting notes structurer skill can be traced and rolled back. Without it, brain_history returns nothing and a write simply replaces the file. The skill always reads an existing note before updating it, but versioning is what makes a mistake recoverable.

VAULT_PATH=/vault
VERSIONING_ENABLED=true

How do you install the meeting notes structurer skill?

  1. Download it from this page. Checkout is free, and the file appears under Skills in My Account.
  2. Unzip it: one folder with SKILL.md and README.md, no scripts.
  3. In Claude Code, copy it to ~/.claude/skills/, or to .claude/skills/ in one project.
  4. In Claude Desktop, add it through Claude’s own skills settings.

Prompts that start it: “Structure these meeting notes and save them to Brain”, “Turn this transcript into a proper note in my vault” or “File this under the Q3 project with action items pulled out.”

What does a result look like?

The example in the meeting notes structurer skill starts from one rough line: Q3 roadmap discussed, Sarah drafts the pricing doc by Friday, EU launch delayed, support staffing unclear. Claude finds two related notes, matches their format and saves meetings/q3-roadmap-review.md. The note records the delay as a decision with the new date flagged as open, Sarah’s task with its Friday deadline, support staffing as an open question, and links to both related notes.

What will the meeting notes structurer skill not do?

It does not invent an owner, a deadline or a decision that was not in your notes. If the notes are too thin to structure, for example two lines with no clear decision, it says so instead of filling the format with made-up action items. It never overwrites an existing note without reading its current content first.

The meeting notes structurer skill is free to download. Get it from this page, see the other skills in the Claude skills catalog, or read the free Claude skills overview for how skills and add-ons work together.
