Your own MCP server, next to your own systems

MCP Self-hosted is a Model Context Protocol server you run yourself with Docker. It handles the protocol, authentication and licensing. Tool add-ons connect it to Missive, WooCommerce, WordPress, your database or a private notes vault, so Claude can work with those systems directly.

MCP Self-hosted has no tools of its own: pick at least one add-on to put it to work. It runs as a single container on your own server or machine.

Requirements: Docker and Docker Compose. Everything else, Node included, is inside the image.

How it works

Three steps

  1. Get your license

14 days free. 3 seats included.

  2. Set it up with Docker

One command installs and updates it. The setup guide walks you through it.

  3. Connect Claude

Add your server link in Claude for each seat. Your data stays on your server.

What's included

What MCP Self-hosted takes care of

The parts you would otherwise have to build and maintain yourself.

Runs with one Docker command

Download a bundle from your account with a ready-made docker-compose.yml and a pre-filled .env, then start it with ./mcp-update.sh. The server listens on port 3200 on localhost.

Docker Compose quickstart

Three seats included

Each seat has its own token, its own set of tools and a read-only or Can make changes. Add, change or revoke them under My Account.

Set up multiple seats

Updates with one script

Run ./mcp-update.sh to pull the latest image and restart the container. Set MCP_VERSION to a version number to stay on that version or roll back.

Keeps running if we are unreachable

If our license server can't be reached, your server keeps working for a 96-hour grace period. Only a revoked or expired license switches it off.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, without a reinstall or a new download. Every tool is already in the image; buying an add-on adds an entitlement to your license. You get an email that lists the variables the tool needs. Enter them in .env or on the Tools tab, then run docker exec mcp-core npm run refresh-license or wait for the next check. Read the MCP Self-hosted add-on model for the details.

Choose MCP Self-hosted when the server should run on your own infrastructure, next to your own systems. Choose the MCP Hosted seat when you do not want to run Docker at all: AddoCore runs the server, billing is monthly and the first month is free. Hosted seats are managed under My Account → MCP Hosted. Self-hosted vs hosted compares the two side by side.

You install MCP Self-hosted with one script. Buy MCP Self-hosted, download the bundle from My Account → MCP Self-hosted, fill in the tool variables in .env and run the update script from the bundle folder. The license key, the license endpoint and your first seat token are already filled in. The host needs Docker with Docker Compose and a bash shell. The install guide for MCP Self-hosted walks through each step.

chmod +x mcp-update.sh
./mcp-update.sh

Run ./mcp-update.sh again in the same folder. It pulls the version set in MCP_VERSION and restarts the container. That variable is pinned to the version in your bundle, so set it to latest to get the newest release, or to a version number to pin or roll back. Your .env, vault, state and logs stay on the host and are not touched.

You set it per seat in My Account. Open the license, go to the Seats tab, tick each tool the seat gets and pick read-only or Can make changes next to it. Two people can share a tool with different modes. Every tool starts read-only, except Brain, which can make changes from the start. Entitlements vs tool modes covers the difference between what a license allows and what a seat does.

Claude Desktop and Claude Code connect out of the box, and so does any MCP client that supports Streamable HTTP or SSE. Each seat logs in with its own token. Every download contains a ready-made Claude Code plugin in the claude-plugin/ folder. Connect Claude to an MCP server shows the setup for both clients.

Yes. MCP Self-hosted is the server, authentication and licensing; it has no tools of its own. Pick at least one add-on so Claude has something to work with.

MCP Self-hosted speaks MCP over HTTP with a token per seat. The download includes a plugin for Claude Code, and the docs explain how to connect Claude Desktop. Connect Claude Desktop and Claude Code.

Your server keeps running. It only stops when a license is revoked or has expired; temporary seat problems are covered by a 96-hour grace period.

Yes. MCP Self-hosted and the tool add-ons can be paid monthly instead of yearly, with a 12-month minimum term. Pick the period on the product page.

Run ./mcp-update.sh in the folder with your docker-compose.yml. It pulls the latest image and restarts the container. Set MCP_VERSION in .env to stay on a specific version.
