WordPress Comment Moderation Skill

The WordPress comment moderation skill is a free Claude skill that works through your pending comment queue in one pass. Claude reads every comment that waits for moderation, gives it a verdict of approve, spam or needs a human, and shows you the list. Nothing is approved or marked as spam until you say so.

What does the WordPress comment moderation skill do?

It turns a queue into a decision list. Per comment you see the author name, the post it was left on, the date, the first part of the text and Claude’s verdict with a one-line reason. The verdicts:

• Approve: a normal reaction or question that fits the post.
• Spam: off-topic text, SEO offers, generic praise that fits under any post, or a stack of links.
• Needs a human: complaints, privacy or removal requests, legal remarks and anything borderline.

For comments that ask a question, Claude also drafts an answer. You post that answer yourself in wp-admin, because the WordPress add-on has no tool to write comments.

How does the WordPress comment moderation skill judge a comment?

It compares the queue with what normal looks like on your site. Before it judges anything, Claude reads a set of recently approved comments as a reference for tone, length and language. It then opens the posts that pending comments belong to, so it can tell whether a comment is about the article or just placed there.

Know what Claude sees. The comment list returns the author name, post ID, date, status and the first 200 characters of the comment as plain text. It does not include the author’s email address, website URL or IP address, and links inside the comment are reduced to their visible text. A spam verdict rests on content and context, not on the sender’s address. That is why borderline cases go to you.

Which tools does the WordPress comment moderation skill use?

Four tools from the WordPress MCP add-on:

• wordpress_list_comments lists comments by status (pending is “hold”) and per post, up to 100 per page.
• wordpress_list_posts and wordpress_get_post give the context: title, date, link and content of the post a comment belongs to.
• wordpress_moderate_comment sets one comment to approve, hold, spam or trash. It is only registered on a seat with Can make changes on.

There is no delete tool in the add-on. Trash removes a comment from public view, and you can still restore it in wp-admin.

Does the WordPress comment moderation skill change anything on its own?

No. The review runs on a read-only seat, and that is the default for the WordPress tool. To let Claude apply your decisions, set the WordPress tool to Can make changes for that one seat in My Account → MCP Self-hosted → Seats. Even then, the skill shows the full list first and only applies the verdicts you confirm. “Apply all spam, hold the rest” is a valid answer.

Claude applies the verdicts one call per comment. A queue of 60 comments means 60 moderation calls after your one confirmation.

What do you need to run the skill?
