Customer lookup by Tim Douglas

The customer order lookup skill is a free Claude skill that links your support inbox to your shop. Point Claude at a customer email in Missive, and it finds the matching WooCommerce order and drafts a reply with the facts from that order: status, items and totals. You read the draft and send it from Missive yourself.

What does the customer order lookup skill do?

It runs one fixed routine for “where is my order” emails:

  1. Read the conversation in Missive and pick out the order number, the customer’s name and any email address mentioned.
  2. Find the order in WooCommerce by order number, by customer account or by searching on the email address.
  3. Check that the order belongs to the person who wrote in before quoting any details.
  4. Translate the WooCommerce status into plain language for the customer, instead of quoting a status code such as “on-hold”.
  5. Write a reply you can paste into Missive, with placeholders for anything the order data does not contain.

On a WooCommerce seat with Can make changes on it can also add an internal note to the order after you confirm.

Which order details can the customer order lookup skill quote?

Only what the WooCommerce add-on returns for an order: the order number, status, customer name and billing email, total and currency, payment method, creation date, and the line items with quantity, product name and line total.

That list is shorter than what you see in wp-admin. The add-on does not return the shipping address, the shipping method, order notes or tracking numbers. So the customer order lookup skill never invents a tracking link. It leaves a clear placeholder such as [tracking link] and names it in the list of things to check before you send.

How does the skill find the right order?

It uses the route that fits the email. An order number in the email goes straight to woocommerce_get_order. Without a number, Claude looks up the email address with woocommerce_list_customers and lists that customer’s orders. Guest checkouts have no customer account, so for those it searches the order list on the email address.

When several orders match, have Claude list them and pick the right one yourself. A wrong order in a reply is worse than one extra minute of checking.

A caveat on the sender check: the Missive tools show a sender’s display name when one is set, and the address only when there is no name. Check the address in Missive before you send order details to it.

Which tools does the customer order lookup skill need?

Read tools from two add-ons. From the Missive MCP add-on: missive_list_conversations, missive_get_conversation, missive_list_messages and missive_get_message, which returns the full message body instead of a preview.

From the WooCommerce MCP add-on: woocommerce_list_customers, woocommerce_list_orders, woocommerce_get_order and woocommerce_get_product. The optional write tool is woocommerce_add_order_note, which only exists on a seat with Can make changes on. The skill writes internal notes; the tool can also post a note the customer sees, but the skill does not do that.

Is the customer order lookup skill safe on a live inbox?

Yes. Read-only on both tools is enough, and that is the default. Claude never sends the reply: the Missive send tool is not registered on a read-only seat, and the skill does not ask for Can make changes. The draft lives in your chat with Claude until you paste it into Missive.

If you want the order note, switch only the WooCommerce tool to Can make changes for that seat in My Account → MCP Self-hosted → Seats. Missive can stay read-only.

What do you need for the customer order lookup skill?

MCP Self-hosted plus both add-ons. MCP Self-hosted costs € 217,80 excl. VAT: € 180,00/yr including 3 seats. The Missive add-on is € 72,60 excl. VAT: € 60,00 and the WooCommerce add-on is € 157,30 excl. VAT: € 130,00 per year. The skill download is free and needs no license.

The MCP setup guides cover both add-ons. In short, Missive needs an API token and WooCommerce a REST API key pair:

MISSIVE_API_TOKEN=your-missive-api-token
WOOCOMMERCE_STORE_URL=https://shop.example.com
WOOCOMMERCE_CONSUMER_KEY=ck_...
WOOCOMMERCE_CONSUMER_SECRET=cs_...

How do you install the customer order lookup skill?
