The WooCommerce low stock report skill is a free Claude skill that answers one question: what do I reorder first? Claude reads your products and recent orders through the WooCommerce add-on of MCP Self-hosted, lists everything that is out of stock, on backorder or below your threshold, and ranks it by how fast it sold in the last 30 days.

What does the WooCommerce low stock report skill produce?

It produces one table, sorted by urgency, plus a short list of follow-ups. Per product you get:

  • Name, SKU and current stock status.
  • Stock quantity, for products that track stock.
  • Units sold in the last 30 days.
  • Estimated days of stock left at that pace.
  • A suggested reorder quantity for the most urgent rows.

Below the table Claude lists products that do not track stock at all. Those have no quantity, so they never show up as low. You decide per product whether stock tracking should be switched on.

The default threshold is 5 units. Name a different number in your prompt, for example “everything under 20”, and the report uses that.

How does the WooCommerce low stock report skill work out sales speed?

It counts units from orders, because the product data has no sales figures. The WooCommerce add-on returns a product’s ID, name, SKU, price and stock status, and the quantity only when “Manage stock” is enabled. There is no “units sold” field. So Claude lists the orders of the last 30 days and opens each one to read its line items: quantity, product name and line total.

That has two consequences. Line items are matched to products by name, so two products with the same name end up on one line. And the work grows with your order volume: orders come in pages of up to 100, and every order needs its own lookup. On a busy shop, ask for a shorter window or one category.

Which tools does the WooCommerce low stock report skill call?

Four read tools and one write tool from the WooCommerce MCP add-on:

  • woocommerce_list_products filters on stock status (in stock, out of stock, on backorder) and pages through the catalog.
  • woocommerce_get_product shows one product, including “stock not tracked” when that applies.
  • woocommerce_list_orders lists orders in a date range, newest first.
  • woocommerce_get_order returns the line items of one order.
  • woocommerce_update_stock sets a stock quantity. It only exists on a seat with Can make changes on.

The add-on has no tool for product variations. A variable product shows up with its parent stock status, not per size or colour.

Can the WooCommerce low stock report skill change stock levels?

Only on a seat with Can make changes on, and only after you confirm each change. Read-only is enough for the report itself, and that is the default for the WooCommerce tool. If you want Claude to correct quantities after a stock count, set the WooCommerce tool to Can make changes for that one seat in My Account → MCP Self-hosted → Seats.

woocommerce_update_stock only takes effect on products with “Manage stock” enabled. The tool does not switch that setting on for you; it returns a warning instead. That matches the skill: it points out untracked products, you decide.

What do you need to run the WooCommerce low stock report skill?

MCP Self-hosted and the WooCommerce add-on. MCP Self-hosted costs € 217,80 excl. VAT: € 180,00/yr including 3 seats, and the WooCommerce add-on is € 157,30 excl. VAT: € 130,00 per year. The skill download is free and needs no license.

The add-on talks to the WooCommerce REST API with a consumer key and secret. The WooCommerce MCP setup guide shows where to create them and how to fill in these variables:

WOOCOMMERCE_STORE_URL=https://shop.example.com
WOOCOMMERCE_CONSUMER_KEY=ck_...
WOOCOMMERCE_CONSUMER_SECRET=cs_...

Run several shops from one MCP Self-hosted? Then each tool gets a store parameter, and you tell Claude which store the report is for.

How do you install the WooCommerce low stock report skill?

  1. Download it from this page. Checkout is free, and the zip appears under Skills in My Account.
  2. In Claude Code, unzip the folder into ~/.claude/skills/, or into .claude/skills/ inside one project.
  3. In Claude Desktop, add the zip through Claude’s own skills settings.
  4. Ask for a stock report and check that Claude starts by listing products.

Prompts that work: “What do I need to reorder this week?”, “Show low stock under 10 units in the Coffee category” or “Which out-of-stock products sold best last month?”

Who is the WooCommerce low stock report skill for?

Shop owners and agencies who check stock by hand in wp-admin, sorting products by quantity and guessing which ones matter. The report puts sales speed next to the quantity, so a product with 4 left that sells 2 a day comes before a product with 1 left that sold nothing in a month.

The WooCommerce low stock report skill is free. Download it here, see the other skills in the Claude skills catalog, or read how skills and add-ons fit together in the free Claude skills overview.
