AddoBase add-ons

AddoBase add-ons are the paid AddoCore WordPress plugins. Each one runs on top of the free AddoBase core, which handles its license, its on/off switch per site and its updates. This section of the docs explains how add-ons behave in general and how to set up each one.

Which AddoBase add-ons are available?

Addofy is the first one. It turns the WordPress and WooCommerce backend into a calmer admin with light and dark mode, global search, a command palette and per-role visibility of menus, meta boxes, columns and notices. Its setup is described in Addofy setup.

New add-ons appear on their own in the AddoBase screen of every connected site, as a row with Try free for N days or Buy a license. You do not need to update AddoBase to see them. The full catalogue is on the WordPress plugins page.

How are AddoBase add-ons licensed?

Per add-on, per account and per number of sites. You buy a license for one add-on and choose how many sites it covers. A subscription renews yearly. Each site where the add-on is switched on uses one of those sites; switching it off frees the site again, so you can move a license between sites whenever you like.

Some plugins, such as Addofy, are also sold as a lifetime license: you pay once and it runs until the plugin’s end of life. AddoBase updates explains how updates and support work with a lifetime license.

Your account holds one license per add-on. Most AddoBase add-ons offer a free trial: 1 site, a fixed number of days, no payment details. An add-on with a free tier offers no trial, because you can take the free tier instead. Prices, renewals and trial rules are on WordPress plugin trial and licenses.

How does an add-on start on your site?

AddoBase decides, on every page load. When WordPress has loaded all plugins, AddoBase collects the add-ons that registered with it and starts the licensed part of each one only when all of these hold:

  • the account has a usable license for it, paid or trial;
  • the add-on is switched on for this site;
  • the license still has room for this site;
  • AddoCore confirmed that state within the last 96 hours.

If one condition fails, the plugin stays active in WordPress but its licensed features do not load. If an add-on throws an error while starting, AddoBase catches it and shows “<name> could not start: <message>” to administrators. Your site stays up.

What stays when AddoBase add-ons are off?

Everything you configured. Add-ons create their database tables and default settings when they are activated, outside the licensed part, so their data survives an expired license or a switch-off. When the license is active again, the add-on starts with the settings it had.

What happens when you delete an add-on is up to the add-on. Addofy, for example, keeps its data by default and lets you choose otherwise on its Tools tab.

How do you install and update AddoBase add-ons?

From the AddoBase screen. Install and switch on reserves a site in your license, downloads the add-on from addocore.com and installs it with WordPress’ own plugin installer. The details per button are in Switch add-ons on and off.

Updates arrive like any other plugin update. Each add-on has a header such as:

Update URI: https://addocore.com/addofy

That tells WordPress to ask AddoBase, not wordpress.org, for new versions. They show up under Dashboard → Updates and in the Plugins list, and the AddoBase screen shows an Update to x.y.z button next to the add-on. Downloads need an active license; without one the screen shows “Renew your license to update”. A development checkout (a linked folder or a git working copy) is never updated from here: “Development checkout: update it with git.”

What do AddoBase add-ons need?

  • AddoBase installed, active and connected to your account, or set up with a license key
  • WordPress 6.5 or newer and PHP 8.1 or newer; an add-on can require more, listed under “Requires” on its product page
  • An administrator who can activate and install plugins

Without AddoBase, an add-on does not crash the site. It shows a notice instead; Addofy, for example, says “Addofy needs the free AddoBase plugin. Install and activate AddoBase to use Addofy.” When AddoBase is installed but not connected, administrators see “Your AddoCore add-ons need a connected AddoBase to work.”

Do add-ons need a license on a local development site?

For Addofy, no. On a site whose host is localhost, 127.0.0.1 or ends in .test, .local, .lokaal, .localhost, .lan, .internal or .home.arpa, Addofy runs without a license. AddoBase must still be installed and active. Other add-ons document their own rule on their setup page.

Which docs cover AddoBase add-ons?

All AddoBase add-ons follow the rules on this page. Start with switching your first add-on on, then open its own setup page.
