Missive Reply Draft Skill

The Missive reply draft skill is a free Claude skill that reads a Missive conversation and writes one reply in the tone of the thread. Claude never sends it. The reply appears in your chat with Claude, and you copy, check and send it from Missive yourself.

What does the Missive reply draft skill do?

It gives Claude a fixed routine for answering a customer thread. Claude finds the conversation, reads the whole history, states in one line what the customer needs and writes a reply that answers every open question in the thread, not only the last one. It mirrors the formality, language and terms the agent already used, and does not add a signature or boilerplate that the thread does not already contain.

The output always has three parts:

• A one-line summary of what the customer needs.
• The draft reply, set apart in a quoted block.
• Open questions or missing details to check before sending.

By default you get one draft, as short as the question allows. Ask for alternatives and Claude writes more than one.

Where does the Missive reply draft skill put the draft?

In the conversation with Claude, as text. The Missive add-on has no tool to create a draft inside Missive, so the Missive reply draft skill does not try. You paste the text into Missive, adjust it and send it. That keeps a person between Claude and every customer.

What is in the download?

A zip with one folder holding SKILL.md, the instructions Claude follows, and README.md with install notes. There are no scripts. The skill header tells Claude to use it when you ask to draft, suggest or prepare a reply to a Missive thread, and never to send a message outright.

Which tools does the Missive reply draft skill use?

Only read tools from the Missive add-on of MCP Self-hosted, which are available in the default read-only mode:

• missive_list_conversations finds the thread when you describe it instead of giving an ID. It needs a mailbox, team inbox or shared label, and can filter on a contact email or domain.
• missive_get_conversation returns subject, last activity, message count, team and shared labels.
• missive_list_messages returns the messages with sender, date and a preview, newest first, up to 10 per call.

For a long message the preview is not the full text. Claude can open it with missive_get_message, also a read tool, which returns the full body. When two threads match your description, the skill tells Claude to confirm which one you mean instead of picking one.

What do you need to run the Missive reply draft skill?

You need MCP Self-hosted and the Missive MCP add-on. The download needs no license; the add-on is what gives Claude access to your conversations. MCP Self-hosted costs € 217,80 excl. VAT: € 180,00/yr including 3 seats, and the Missive add-on is € 72,60 excl. VAT: € 60,00 per year. The add-on uses a Missive API token; the Missive MCP setup guide explains where to create it.

Read-only is enough, because the skill never sends. Leave the Missive tool on read-only for the seat you use. Sending is a separate, deliberate action outside the skill and needs Can make changes for that seat, which you set in My Account → MCP Self-hosted.

How do you install the Missive reply draft skill?

1. Download the skill from this page. Checkout is free, and the file appears under Skills in My Account.
2. Unzip it. In Claude Code, copy the folder to ~/.claude/skills/, or to .claude/skills/ in one project.
3. In Claude Desktop, add it through Claude’s own skills settings.
4. Ask Claude to draft a reply to a thread and check that it reads the conversation first.

What does the Missive reply draft skill refuse to do?

It never sends, schedules or posts the draft. It also never invents order numbers, tracking links, refund amounts or policy details that are not in the conversation or given by you. Where a fact is missing it leaves a placeholder and names it under open questions. If the thread is already closed, it says so instead of drafting a reply to a finished conversation.

The example in the Missive reply draft skill shows this: a customer asks about order #4821. Claude writes a short holding reply and adds a note that Missive alone has no tracking data for that order. With the WooCommerce add-on on the same seat, you can look that up before sending.
